SMB Application Developers
An application development company with national clients required improved security protection to meet their client’s security requirements.
The solution was required to protect an application throughout development to production. The solution also needed to be scalable to meet the future demands of the business.
Small Robot understood the brief, and the challenges faced by SMBs in terms of budget allocation.
Team Small Robot developed a solution that leveraged the client’s Microsoft M365 subscription components, rather than introduce new technologies which would incur additional upfront and ongoing costs.
The solution not only met but exceeded the requirements. It was also welcomed by the the developers as it did not interefere with their workflow or tools (as the prior suggested solution would have) and was cost effective without compromising on security.
The solution was developed and implemented rapidly. With the knowledge transfer enabling the IT lead to manage the solution ongoing.
Cyber Attack Response
SMB Distribution Business
Small Robot, and other/larger cyber security companies were approached when a national distributor suspected they may have been compromised. Small Robot were the only ones to analyse what happened, not just provide a quote on solutions.
It turns out they were not compromised, a key partner was, but they were the actual one being targeted - this is commonly referred to as a 'supply chain' attack. Small Robot leveraged Cisco Talos Threat Intelligence team to neutralise the attackers infrastructure, which was then instantly applied across Small Robots other clients.
Small Robot were then engaged to review and improve their cyber protection against such attacks.
This involved securing their Microsoft M365 and services, securing their identities and access, securing their endpoints with a modern EDR (endpoint detection & response) solution, and providing the security monitoring of their entire environment through Small Robot's Detection & Response system.
The client remains secure today and continue to focus on growing their business while Small Robot focus on keeping them secure.
Data Breach Assistance
SMB Educator
An SMB education institution engaged Small Robot to assess and remediate a data breach which followed on from a successful cyber attack.
The successful attack was conducted prior to Small Robot being engaged, with the client unsure what data had been lost. An further consequence was the education department removed their access to key systems.
Small Robot saw this as three distinct requirements; identify what had happened/what had been lost, identify that the attacker was no longer active, and improve the security of the business so that that it was resistant to cyber attacks and met the education departments reconnection requirements.
Small Robot worked with the institutions IT team to gain the access and telemetry to ascertain that the attacker was no longer active, the attack vector was no longer active and no data had been lost. Security improvements were applied including protection against phishing/internet attacks. Small Robot detailed the events, outcomes and improvements which regained access to the education systems. The business is better prepared for cyber attacks and has continued securely.
